Wyoming Paycheck Calculator
Wyoming has never taxed wages, and unlike most no-income-tax states it does not make the money back at the register or on the property bill — sales and property taxes run below national averages too. The coal trains and gas fields pay instead. This calculator itemizes the federal lines that do come out of a Wyoming paycheck.

Minerals carry the budget
Severance taxes on coal, natural gas, oil, and trona, plus Wyoming's share of federal mineral royalties, fund the state the way income taxes fund others. That is why Wyoming manages what few no-tax states do: no income tax and a 4% state sales tax with modest county additions and residential property taxes among the lowest effective rates in the country. The wage earner's share of the state budget is unusually close to zero.
The same structure is the state's known weakness — revenue rides commodity prices, and lean coal years reopen the income tax debate in Cheyenne. None of those proposals has come close to passing, and no tax exists or is enacted for 2026.

What your employer handles that you never see
Unemployment insurance and workers' compensation premiums are employer-paid in Wyoming — nothing for either is withheld from wages. Your W-4 controls the only adjustable line on the stub, the federal withholding; pre-tax 401(k) contributions reduce it, and Section 125 health premiums and HSA contributions reduce FICA as well.

Frequently asked questions
Has Wyoming ever had an income tax?
No — it is one of the few states that has never levied one. Proposals surface when mineral revenue slumps, but none has advanced far, and the political consensus against one has held for the state's entire history.
Does Cheyenne, Casper, or Jackson tax wages?
No Wyoming city or county levies an income tax. Local option sales taxes, capped at a few percent, are how counties raise additional revenue.
Why do wealthy people establish residency in Jackson Hole?
The combination is hard to beat anywhere else: no income tax on any income including investment gains, no estate tax, low property taxes, and favorable trust law. For ordinary wage earners the same rules apply — the state simply takes almost nothing from personal income at any level.
Is anything withheld for state programs?
Nothing. Wyoming's unemployment insurance and workers' compensation are funded by employer premiums, and there is no state disability or paid leave program. Every deduction on a Wyoming stub beyond the federal lines is one you or your employer chose.
